BP Norway and ADB jointly develop new application! Minimize

Published: 2. October 2007

ADB and BP Norway through a joint development project have created a new web based WorkMate application called Work Permit Manager. This application has been developed to simplify the process of authorizing, activating and deactivating work permits on BP’s production platforms. Barcode readers have been introduced to simplify the process of reading information about each work permit and indicating in the application if this permit is active or not and approved or not.

The application also makes use of a plot plan covering the platform in question so the control room will have a view of work currently operational in all areas. This gives the supervisory staff the ability to see all types of work being performed graphically and gives the ability to identify any possible risks of performing certain types of work in close proximity to each other.

Also available from this plot plan is the ability to list and plan any scheduled work for the coming days and is an important new safety tool used in planning meetings every day to determine the safest method of executing work plans. The application uses the standard work permit methodology for the North Sea (integrated into WorkMate) and is seen as an important step in furthering BP’s platform safety and security.
